this "little" snowstorm crept in under the radar on saturday night. earlier that morning we had driven chuck's mother to whitefish, a historic railroad town near the west entrance of glacier national park. on saturday, we had what seemed to be the perfect day already: checking out the montana artists' co-ops and galleries, driving around the few park roads still open in late march, and had eaten a delicious dinner at a local restaurant where the combination of the conversation, the smells, the food and wine seemed to slow time down to deep savored moments of pure enjoyment. we believed our day was over when we were settled in our comfy hotel beds. then chuck noticed the large snowflakes from the window!!! the storm, that took place so suddenly and unexpectedly, created (as if some natural masterpiece) the perfect ski environment for what the locals were calling the next day, "the best day of the season, the best season of the decade."
