new chicks for shayne!

shayne (the much, much younger "surprise" cousin) has new chickens! this couldn't have come at a better time, afterall spring is approaching and he has had a very emotionally trying year!! just recently his prized chickens, mary kate and ashley, disappeared out of his yard! he had raised them since their birth, and it wouldn't be a stretch to say that he considered them family members. he took it really, really hard! this kid decided on his own that he wanted to raise chickens in the first place. he is has always been really hilarious! he has spent most of his time with his 70 plus year old grandfather, and has used terms like "cowpoke" and "reckon" since he could speak. he is also really tender hearted and philosophical. he will sit quietly on your lap for a moment and then just spit out something like, "why do people have to get sick and suffer?" i am amazed at his vocabulary sometimes, his really advanced sense of humor, and his optimism despite the depressing year he has had! i love this kid! this is what my aunt susie emailed us,

"The yellow chicken is Kiley. The black chicken with a white dot on her head and a dark front is Sydney. The black chicken with a white chest is Jami. The red chicken is Krista. You know how red heads have a temper!!! Plus you add the fact of poop crusted on your behind and that makes a red head extra mad. Archie is patiently waiting for all the girls to grow up and be a part of his hen house. I think he is a bigamist!"
