A rare appearance writing on the blog...
Went on a Thanksgiving hike with Kiley... Followed the Ridge Trail eight miles from Park City to Mt. Helena in the deep snow. It was a heck of a work out! At times the snow was really deep and it was hard to distinquish where the trail was, or if we were on the trail at all. At one point we came to an intersection and I commented "oh great, this is the proverbial fork in the road," at which time Kiley corrected me by saying, "actually, this is the literal fork in the road."
This was honestly the coldest hike I've ever taken. In some of the more shaded valleys, it was probably about 5 degrees F. We spooked 16 elk from the bedding they had salvaged in a leeward gulch, which made us excited and guilty at the same time. We were glad to see Jami, Judy, and Cheryl when they scooped us up to get us back home for hot showers and a hot plate. Although we felt cocky for having conquered the cold, snowy trail, in reality the three ladies who picked us up had just conquered something much more impressive---Christmas shopping on the Friday after Thanksgiving.
