so i ended up being far less daring with the tiles than i had originally planned. i wanted the cabinets to stick out more like the work of art! with the back splash i went for some visual details, but kept it within the conservative confines of a neutral palate. the tiles for the floor were also neutral and incredibly cheap. the granite is going to be the best part!! i could never get a good picture with of it with chuck's new, compact digital camera (not sure how to turn off auto focus). but if you could see it in person it is a base of neutral tones, rich streaks of caramel, speckles of gold, punches of black, with a visual surprise of blood red saturated chunks. i am sure i will wake up and run into the kitchen each morning for weeks when we finally move in. i can't believe that this is our new home. i keep thinking it is some type of sick joke, that someone is going to take it back when they realize we aren't "grown-ups." but the craziest thing is that we actually are, or more correctly, chuck is. we only have this place because of his extremely committed-to-seeing-projects-complete type of work ethic. i have an even deeper respect for him now, how he has handled the stress of this remodeled, and has gotten done what seemed like impossible tasks from his own very busy public interest desk. i am definitely jumping on the "chuck is my hero" bandwagon!
